ROSEBURG – The Umpqua Valley Christian boys soccer team finished strong against Damascus Christian to win a 1A state playoff game 4-1 Monday at Fir Grove Park.

The Monarchs fell behind 1-0 early in the first half, but tied the game on a goal by freshman Spencer Adams. Senior captain Gage Reeves found the back of the net in the first half to put Umpqua Valley Christian in front 2-1 going to the break.

UVC continued to stretch its lead in the second half. Sophomore Jacob Luther scored from the penalty box to put the Monarchs up 3-1 and UVC added one final goal in the final 10 minutes of play.

Umpqua Valley Christian will next play for the 1A state championship against North Clackamas Christian. The two sides will meet on Friday in Wilsonville.
