UMPQUA BASIN – The high school post season got underway over the weekend here in the Umpqua Basin and the match-ups continue to ramp up throughout this week.
The South Umpqua volleyball team was the first to take the court in the post season. The Lady Lancers visited Henley on Saturday for a 4A play-in game, where the winner advanced to the first round of the state playoffs.
South Umpqua got out to a slow start and never did recover, losing the match 3-1 and ending the Lancers’ season. Henley won the first two sets by a wide margin, 25-7 and 25-10. South rallied in the third set to win 25-17, but the comeback fell short in a close final set that the Hornets won 25-20.
The Lancers finished their season with an 8-10 overall record and a fourth place finish in the Far West League.
In other volleyball action from the weekend, the North Douglas Warriors won the Skyline League district tournament Saturday at Sutherlin High School. The Lady Warriors defeated Days Creek 3-0 in the title bout and earned a first round bye in the 1A state playoffs.
