ROSEBURG – The Roseburg High School volleyball team sent out its seniors with a dominant 3-0 win over the Willamette Wolverines on Tuesday night.

The Indians started a bit slow in the first set, but rallied to win 25-19 and followed that up with victories of 25-7 and 25-16. The win sealed the second conference championship for the Indians under head coach Danielle Haskett.

“There was a lot of emotion in the gym the tonight,” Haskett said after the match, explaining why her team got out to a slow start. “It just took them a little bit to get focused on what our job was for the evening.”

Roseburg (16-5; 11-1 SWC) celebrated its nine seniors before the match. The ceremonies stretched out the normal pregame rituals for the Indians, which may have been a factor in the distracted start. Yet, once the Indians got rolling, Willamette (3-15; 1-10 SWC) didn’t stand much of a chance.

The Wolverines held a 16-14 lead midway through the first set, but the Indians responded with a 7-0 run behind strong serving from Caelynn Griggs.

The momentum continued to build in the second set. Roseburg started on a 5-0 run and later led 14-3 after going on an 8-0 run.

In the third set, the Indians had to battle early on and even trailed 3-2, but a 4-0 run put Roseburg on top and the girls never relinquished the lead.

Senior Karsyn Ramsey and junior Madelynn Fox led Roseburg with five kills each. Senior Sammy Nash had seven digs and Sam Sjogren finished with four service aces and 16 assists. Senior Ellie Weber also chipped in 12 assists for Roseburg.

The Indians will next host Marist for an OSAA endowment game on Monday. The contest will serve as the final tune-up for Roseburg before the start of the 6A state playoffs on October 26. Roseburg and Marist will begin play at 6 p.m. Passes will not be accepted at the door. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students.
