EUGENE – The bye week is over for the Oregon football team and preparations are already underway as the Ducks get ready to visit the Cal Bears on Friday night. The pressure has been growing for the players and coaches, as the team tries to find a way out of a four-game losing streak.

But with the lofty expectations now placed on the Oregon football team, just being more competitive on the field against Cal won’t be enough.

“There is no turnaround in a four game losing streak if you play good and lose,” defensive backs coach John Neal said on Monday. “We got to play great and win.”

This is the first four-game losing streak for Oregon since the 2006 season, when the Ducks finished the year with losses to USC, Arizona, Oregon State, and BYU.

Friday’s contest in Berkeley could be a barn-burner. Both Oregon and Cal have high scoring offenses backed up by porous defenses. Oregon’s offense is tied for 28th best in the nation in scoring (36.8 points per game) and Cal is 12th (42.3 points per game). On the other side of the ball, Oregon’s defense is ranked 125th in the nation, allowing 41.8 points per game. Cal isn’t much better at 123rd (40.0 points allowed per game).

Oregon and Cal kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. Tune in for Tailgate Tuesday at 7 p.m. on News Radio 1240 KQEN to get more insight into this week’s match-up.
