UMPQUA BASIN – It’s shaping up to be a great season for volleyball here in the Umpqua Basin and as the regular season comes to an end many teams are riding high into the post season.

The Roseburg volleyball team clinched the Southwest Conference title on Thursday night with a convincing 3-1 win over second place South Eugene. It’s the first conference title for the Indians since 2013. The team will receive an automatic berth in the first round of the state playoffs, which begin on October 26.

Roseburg is now 10-1 in conference play with one match left to go. The Indians will finish the regular season with a home game against Willamette on Tuesday. Prior to the regular season finale, the Indians will travel to the West Linn Tournament on Saturday.

Another Douglas County volleyball team will have to wait for its chance to claim a conference title. The Douglas Trojans were scheduled to face the Marshfield Pirates on Thursday in the Far West League finale, but the match was moved to Monday due to the severe weather hitting the region.

Douglas started Thursday tied for first with Siuslaw, but the Vikings won their final league game to move to into first place with an 8-2 league record. The Lady Trojans will need to win their match against Marshfield on Monday to move back into a tie with Siuslaw and claim a share of the league title. A loss would mean a second place finish.

The South Umpqua volleyball team ended its Far West League season with a 3-0 win over Brookings-Harbor to stay in the chase for the post season. The Lady Lancers just missed an automatic berth in the play-in round, but might get in because of their OSAA power ranking. South Umpqua is currently No. 22, which should mean they’ll be one of the last few teams into the post season when the rankings freeze on Tuesday.

The Sutherlin volleyball team also appears to be in good position to make the post season. The Lady Bulldogs moved into third place in the Sky-Em League with a 3-2 win over Sweet Home on Thursday. A top three finish would mean an automatic berth in the play-in round for Sutherlin, which has one league game left to play on Monday.

The Glide volleyball team remains in first place in the Mountain Valley Conference, despite losing for the first time to a conference opponent. The Wildcats were closing in on an undefeated league season, but second place Creswell pulled off a 3-1 upset on Thursday night. Glide has two league games left to go and may be playing for the conference crown when the Wildcats host Coquille in the season finale next Thursday.

Speaking of undefeated seasons, the North Douglas volleyball team finished off its third straight undefeated league season. The Lady Warriors defeated Umpqua Valley Christian 3-0 on Thursday to go 13-0 in the Skyline League. North Douglas is ranked No. 1 in the state and will go through a league playoff for seeding before starting the state playoffs.
