GLIDE – Creswell volleyball took down Glide 3-1 Thursday night in a surprise loss for the Wildcats.
After starting the season 19-1 and 7-0 in league play, Glide came up against a tough Bulldogs team that has been improving in recent weeks. Glide had previously only lost one set in league play until Thursday night.
Glide cruised in the first set 25-11 with strong team play. However, in the second set Creswell was able to build a lead and win 25-16. Both teams battled for the lead in the decisive third with the Bulldogs once again pulling out the set, 25-20. In the fourth set Creswell was able to once again build a lead and held off a late rally by the Wildcats to win 25-22.
“We have really been getting better and better the last few weeks and really playing good together,” said Creswell head coach Anna Baltrusch. “That’s what you want to be doing at the end of season.”
The Bulldogs were led by Cassie Cunningham with 16 kills and Hannah Wheeler who had 10 kills and six blocks. Bailey Howell has 29 assists and two aces and Carley Ayer had 16 digs to help lead Creswell to the upset victory.
Creswell is now 6-2 in league play tied with Coquille for second place, one game behind Glide, who is now 7-1 in conference.
Glide plays La Pine next Tuesday and Coquille at home next Thursday on senior night in what could be a battle for the league title.
Creswell plays Pleasant Hill next Tuesday and Harrisburg next Thursday to finish out their regular season.
