ROSEBURG – The Roseburg Indians are now one game away from clinching the Southwest Conference volleyball title thanks to a 3-1 victory against South Medford on Tuesday night.

The Indians jumped on the Panthers early in the match, winning the opening two sets 25-6 and 25-4. South Medford scrapped together a win in the third set, but Roseburg emphatically finished off the match with a 25-10 win in the fourth set.

The victory keeps Roseburg one-game ahead of the second place team in the Southwest Conference, which is now South Eugene. The Lady Axemen beat Grants Pass on Tuesday to move up in the standings. Roseburg and South Eugene square off on Thursday and a win for the Indians would clinch the title. A loss for Roseburg would mean the possibility of a shared conference title.

Roseburg and South Eugene will play at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday in Eugene.

The Douglas volleyball team beat Siuslaw 3-1 Tuesday night in a huge Far West League match.

The teams split the first two sets, but the Lady Trojans rallied to take the final two sets after a competitive battle with the Vikings. The win now catapults Douglas into a first place tie with Siuslaw at the top of the Far West standings. Both teams are 7-2 in league play.

Also in the Far West League on Tuesday, the South Umpqua ladies kept their hopes of a volleyball play-in game alive by defeating Marshfield 3-1. The Lady Lancers are now fourth in the league standings and No. 22 in the OSAA rankings, which might be good enough to help South Umpqua into the post season. The Lady Lancers finish the regular season on Thursday with a home game against Brookings-Harbor.

The Roseburg girls soccer team hosted the South Eugene Lady Axemen for senior night on Tuesday. The celebration was spoiled though, as South Eugene won 2-1. Sydney Holborow scored the lone goal for the Indians. Roseburg finishes its season with two road contests.
