MEDFORD – The Roseburg football team turned the ball over seven times against North Medford on Friday night and the Black Tornado claimed a 35-14 victory over the Indians in a Southwest Conference game.

North Medford (4-2; 2-2 SWC) took a 7-0 lead on a 56-yard touchdown run by Mason Barone during the opening drive of the game. On the ensuing possession for Roseburg, senior running back Kyle Rackley lost a hold of the football on the Indians’s first play from scrimmage and defensive lineman A.J. Raye recovered the ball for the Black Tornado.

North Medford took advantage of the short field and scored on a 25-yard pass play from quarterback Javan Gail to receiver Devin Shook, who made a juggling catch while falling to the ground. The Indians trailed 13-0 in less than four minutes of game time and never managed to cut the deficit to less than two scores from that point forward.

Roseburg (0-6; 0-4 SWC) turned the ball over four times in the first half on three fumbles and an interception thrown by sophomore quarterback Collin Warmouth. North Medford’s defense picked off three more passes in the second half when the Indians went more to the air in an attempt at a comeback.

North Medford quarterback Javan Gail had himself a night, tossing passes to eight different receivers. He finished with 229 yards through the air on 17-of-27 passing, with three touchdowns and one interception.

Despite the turnovers, Warmouth accounted for a majority of Roseburg’s offense. The young QB finished with 178 yards passing and completed 8-of-19 attempts. His lone touchdown pass was a 75-yard completion to Terrell Jacks in the second quarter. It was the first passing touchdown of Warmouth’s varsity career.

Zack Mandera added a touchdown for Roseburg in the fourth quarter on a six-yard run. Mandera finished with 15 yards on 10 carries. Senior Kyle Rackley led Roseburg on the ground with 55 yards on six carries.

The Indians will next make another trip to Spiegelberg Stadium to face South Medford on Friday. North Medford will visit Grants Pass for its next conference game.
