UMPQUA BASIN – When the high school sports season reaches mid-to-late October, it’s hard to find a contest that doesn’t mean something. That’s the case on Thursday as a number of the Umpqua Basin volleyball teams will be jockeying for playoff positions.
The Roseburg volleyball team is only a couple wins away from clinching a conference title, but the Indians still have some top match-ups looming on their league schedule. Roseburg visits second place Grants Pass on Thursday looking to keep its undefeated conference record in tact.
The Indians hold a two-game lead for first place over Grants Pass and South Eugene, which is tied with the Lady Cavers. The last time Roseburg faced Grants Pass, the Indians rolled to a straight-sets victory after never truly being threatened.
Roseburg and Grants Pass will tipoff at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.
It’s a Douglas County showdown in Winston on Thursday night and the 4A volleyball playoffs could be on the line. South Umpqua visits the Douglas Trojans for a critical Far West League contest.
Douglas needs a win to stay in the chase for the league title, while South Umpqua is on the bubble of making the post season and a victory would go a long way to helping that happen.
Douglas and South Umpqua tipoff at 6:30 p.m.
It’s a battle for first place in the Sky-Em League volleyball standings on Thursday. The second place Sutherlin Bulldogs host first place Sisters with hopes of pulling off the upset and moving into a tie with the Outlaws for first.
Sutherlin and Sisters tipoff at 6 p.m.
Also, there’s a top 10 showdown coming up in the 1A Skyline League on Thursday. The No. 3 North Douglas Lady Warriors host No. 10 Elkton. The Warriors are in first place, while the Lady Elks are right behind in second. The contest tips off at 6 p.m.
