ROSEBURG – The Roseburg wrestling team will be aiming for its fourth straight state championship this winter and the team is preparing for the season by raising funds with its 5th annual dinner and auction on October 8th.
The event, put on by the Roseburg Mat Club, helps raise money to provide equipment, supplies, and to help send wrestlers to the many national meets they take part in during the season.
Tickets are still on sell and can be purchased at Associated Cellars. The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds conference hall. Included in the night’s events are games, dinner, a live auction and more.
The dinner and auction is for ages 21 and over. Tickets are $30 each, $50 per couple, and $200 for a table.
The Roseburg wrestling team begins the season in November. The team, led by head coach Steve Lander, has won eight of the last 10 state championships. This year could be historic, as the Indians have two wrestlers that will try to become the first four-time individual state champions in school history. Seniors Layne VanAnrooy and Haydn Maley have both won three titles for the Indians.
