WINSTON – The Douglas volleyball team moved into sole possession of third place in the Far West League with a rousing five set victory over Marshfield on Tuesday night.

The Lady Trojans won the opening set 25-14, but found themselves on the brink of defeat after losing the second and third sets to the Pirates. Douglas fought back to win the fourth set 25-23 and then pulled off the victory with a 15-12 decision in the final set.

Douglas is now 3-2 in league games and trails the two teams tied for first place by just one game. North Bend defeated Siuslaw 3-1 on Tuesday to move into a tie for first.

The South Umpqua volleyball team is making a strong push to stay in the Far West League post season conversation. The Lady Lancers downed Brookings-Harbor 3-0 on Tuesday to move into a tie for fourth place with Marshfield.

Coming up later in the week, Douglas and South Umpqua will both face the first place teams in the Far West League. Douglas hosts North Bend on Thursday, while South Umpqua welcomes in Siuslaw.
