CORVALLIS – Oregon State University president Ed Ray announced Marianne Vydra as the interim athletics director on Wednesday as the university conducts a national search to replace Todd Stansbury, who announced last week that he is leaving the position on November 4 for a similar job at Georgia Tech.
Vydra previously served as the interim athletics director for Oregon State prior to the university hiring Stansbury during the summer of 2015. She presently serves as deputy director of OSU athletics for administration and is the department’s senior woman administrator.
President Ray also announced the members of a search committee that will help in the process of hiring a permanent athletics director. Notable members of the committee include former OSU football player and NFL all-pro running back Steven Jackson, OSU head baseball coach Pat Casey, head OSU women’s gymnastics coach Tanya Chaplin, and current OSU basketball player Steven Thompson Jr.
Oregon State will also use Jeff Schemmel, president of College Sports Solutions, a strategic consulting company for collegiate athletics, and Kevin Weiberg, former commissioner of the Big 12 Conference, as a search firm to help in the process.
