ROSEBURG – The Elkton volleyball team continued its winning streak in Skyline League play as the Elks beat Umpqua Valley Christian 3-0 Tuesday night. The Elkton girls have now won seven straight league games, bringing their record to 7-1 in conference and 9-2 overall.
Umpqua Valley Christian is now 2 -6 in league and 3-9 overall. The Monarchs continue to fight for a playoff spot.
Both teams battled early in the first set, but later Elkton pulled away to an easy victory. The Elks had strong offensive serving and team play to lead them to the victory. They were led by junior Hannah Maxwell with eight kills and sophomore Grace Whitley with 17 assists.
Elkton head coach Athera Monroe explained that the team’s success has come for its focus on attitude. “We’re really pushing our attitude, to make sure were always having a positive attitude, and working on our leadership as well.”
Elkton is ranked 10th in the state with a looming matchup Thursday against No. 1 ranked North Douglas, which is undefeated in league play and gave the Elks their lone loss in conference play.
UVC plays Yoncalla Thursday in a matchup that could have playoff implications.
