ROSEBURG – The Umpqua women’s volleyball team got its first conference win in a closely contested match against Mt. Hood on Saturday. The Lady Riverhawks won the first two sets against the Scots, but couldn’t put the match away. Mt. Hood rallied to win the third and fourth sets and force a decisive fifth set.

In the final set, the Riverhawks claimed a 15-5 edged for the win.

Viviana Rodriguez had 18 kills to lead the Umpqua offense and Olivia Gulliford added 14. Kaysie Cornellio had 34 digs to pace the Riverhawks’ defense.

Umpqua lost its conference opener to Clark College on Friday. The Riverhawks are now 1-1 in conference play and will next visit Chemeketa on Friday.
