ROSEBURG – Roseburg volleyball continued its hot start to the season Thursday night with a convincing win against North Medford.

The Indians rallied in the first set after being down 9-18 to win 25-22. Karey Lomica, a sophomore, finished out the first set with 11 straight serves to complete the comeback. Lomica ended with three service aces in the match. Roseburg went on to win the second and third sets 25-15 and 25-17 to win the match.

Head coach Danielle Haskett talked about the teams slow start after the match. “These girls like to give me extra grey hair,” she exclaimed. “They like to come from behind and we have been traditionally been doing that all season. It takes them a little while to get going, and once they get going they cruise on pretty well.”

Sammy Nash had 10 digs and Caelynn Griggs added seven. Riley Heath had eight kills for the Indians, while Ellie Weber had six kills and Madelynn Fox had five kills and three blocks.

Roseburg has now completed half of its conference schedule going 6-0 in league and is now 8-1 overall.

Coach Haskett acknowledged that it’s been a good start to the year, but her players are hungry for more.

“I have nine seniors returning and they went to state last year, so they have had a taste of that and they want to go back. So were working really hard to obtain our goal of finishing top two in our league and hopefully being able to be successful in the playoffs and return to state. They’ve had a taste, they wanna go back.”

Roseburg now looks ahead to the second half of conference play. The Indians are ranked 5th in the state and will begin the second half of the league season against North Medford next Thursday. Prior to that, the Indians take part in the South Albany Tournament on Saturday.
