EUGENE – After a stellar start to the season, the Roseburg boys soccer team came back down to earth a bit on Wednesday. The Indians squared off against Sheldon to begin Southwest Conference play and the Irish bested Roseburg 6-0 in Eugene.
Sheldon jumped on Roseburg early, scoring five goals in the first half. Previously, the Indians hadn’t allowed more than two goals in one game.
While the defense struggled to contain the Irish, Roseburg’s offense also faltered. The Indians had been averaging over four goals a game prior to getting shutout for the first time this year.
Roseburg (2-1) will try to regroup with a home game against Grants Pass coming up on Saturday.
VOLLEYBALL
The Roseburg volleyball team will try to avoid a letdown after their huge win over Sheldon on Tuesday. The Indians play host to the Grants Pass Lady Cavers on Thursday for a Southwest Conference showdown.
The Grants Pass squad has played one of the busiest early season schedules and the Lady Cavers are 8-1 on the year. Roseburg (2-0), meanwhile, has played just twice this season.
Roseburg and Grants Pass begin play at 6:45 p.m. tonight at Stewart W. Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.
