UMPQUA BASIN – The Roseburg Indians begin the Dave Heuberger era with a lengthy road trip to Gresham on Friday, where the Gophers are also under the leadership of a new head coach.

Gresham’s previous coach resigned his position in July and Mike Melton was named the interim coach in August. Melton guides a Gresham team that went winless in 2015, while Heuberger leads an Indians squad that managed just one win a year ago.

Roseburg and Gresham are both looking for bounce back seasons this year and it starts Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans can tune in for the game on 1490 The Score or watch the game for free on the High School Football Hub at 541radio.com. Pregame coverage starts at 6:45 p.m.

Elsewhere around the Umpqua Basin, the Sutherlin Bulldogs break in their new turf field by hosting Oakland in a rivalry match-up. Last year Sutherlin defeated the Oakers in the season opener for their only win of the year. Oakland will look to repay the favor, by spoiling Sutherlin’s big night.

Coverage of Sutherlin and Oakland can be heard on i101 FM, home of the Sutherlin Bulldogs. Dan Bain will have the call starting with pregame at 6:45 p.m. Fans can also follow the action by listening to the game online at 541radio.com.

Also at the 4A level, South Umpqua travels south for a difficult contest against the Mazama Vikings at 7 p.m. The Douglas Trojans begin the year at home against Valley Catholic, also at 7 p.m.
