SACRAMENTO, CA – Roseburg High School’s Jordan Smith set a personal record in the high jump Friday at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, CA. Smith reached a height of 5-feet, 8 ¾ inches in the 15-16 age division, beating his previous record by more than half an inch.
Smith reportedly competed on a severely sprained ankle. He finished 30th in his division. The gold medal winner hit a height of 6-feet, 3 ¼ inches.
Fellow Roseburg Indian Dalton Rasmussen also set a PR on Friday at the Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships. Rasmussen, competing in the 15-16 boy’s discus, had a throw of 111-feet and a quarter inch. The mark beat his previous best by nearly four feet, but it was not good enough to qualify him for the finals at the Junior Olympic Championships.
