CENTRAL POINT, OR – The season came to an end for the Umpqua Lions Thursday morning as they lost 5-3 against La Grande in the first elimination game of the Class A American Legion baseball state tournament.
The Lions fell in a 0-2 hole in the top of the third inning, but responded with three runs in the bottom half of the third to take a 3-2 lead. Umpqua held the lead until La Grande pushed across a few runs in the top of the sixth to pull ahead for good.
Umpqua finishes its season with a 14-20 record. The Lions took second place in the Area 4 North Division and qualified for the state tournament for the first time in three years.
