SACRAMENTO, CA – Roseburg’s Tyler Sconce came up just shy of reaching the 50-foot mark and placed 21st in the 17-18 men’s shot put competition at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Sacramento on Wednesday. Sconce had a toss of 48-feet, 11 ¾ inches to fall in 13-feet, 7-inches behind the champion Bronson Osborn from Esparanza High School in California.
The mark was nearly five feet shy of Sconce’s personal record, which he set in the OSAA 6A state championships in May.
Sconce is the first of three Roseburg High School track and field standouts that will be competing at the national event. Jordan Smith is scheduled to compete in the 15-16 men’s high jump on Friday at 8 a.m. Dalton Rasmussen is scheduled to throw the javelin in the 15-16 men’s division on Friday at 1 p.m. Rasmussen will toss the discus in the 15-16 division on Sunday at 8 a.m.
