CORVALLIS – The Oregon State baseball team is one of only 32 NCAA Division I teams to be honored with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Academic Excellence Award.
The Beavers are the lone team from the Pac-12 Conference to receive the honor, and are one of three programs on the West Coast, joining Sacramento State and Portland.
To be eligible for the honor, teams must have posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2015-16 academic year. Oregon State’s team GPA was 3.14.
More than 150 teams from NCAA Divisions I, II and III, along with NAIA, junior college and high school programs were recognized.
The Beavers had a school-record 11 players honored on the Pac-12’s All-Academic teams, with Jack Anderson and Jake Thompson being named to the first team and Max Engelbrekt being recognized on the second squad. Anderson and KJ Harrison, meanwhile, were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-Region 8 First Team.
