EUGENE – A Doran Gillespie single in the top of the seventh inning scored the game-winning run as the Roseburg Renegades claimed their second state championship with a 4-3 win over West Salem on Sunday.

The Renegades took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a double by Gillespie and added another run later the same inning on a single by Clayton Brelage. Despite the early lead, the Renegades had to come back late in the game for the win.

West Salem pulled ahead with three runs in the fourth inning off of Roseburg starter Jett Black. The Renegades didn’t let the Titans’ lead last long as they tied the game in the top of the fifth inning.

Roseburg’s comeback started in the seventh inning with a one-out single by Spencer Six. He advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Gillespie’s single.

The Renegades relied Black to go the distance on the mound. He finished the game with a strike out, leaving the game-tying run for West Salem standing on third. Black finished the game allowing eight hits, one earned run, and no walks, while striking out seven.

This is the second state title for head coach Tim Sustaire since taking over the summer league program. The team last won the title in 2011.

Coach Sustaire will be a guest Monday at noon on Off The Wall with Joey Keeran on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score.
