ROSEBURG – The Roseburg Doc Stewart’s baseball team begins its surprising journey to the post season on Friday with game one of a best of three series against Advanced Metals from Gresham. The Doc’s advanced to the Super Regionals due to Klamath Falls disqualification for using ineligible players during league games.

The trip to Sandy High School, where the Doc’s will face the Gresham squad, might be unexpected, but head coach Scott Shaver says his team played themselves into a position to be there and they’re going to take advantage of it.

The Doc’s haven’t made the state tournament since 2014, when they lost two straight games to end the season. Last year, the Doc’s traveled to Corvallis for a Super Regional series against the Gerding Builders Marketmen, but the Doc’s were eliminated in two games and missed the state tournament.

The Doc’s have been a resilient team this year, suffering their fair share of misfortune. The team had 10 games this year decided by just one run. They lost seven of them. Maybe the bounces are starting to go their way, as the Doc’s have gone 11-8 in the month of July.

Game one of the Super Regional begins at 7 p.m. on Friday at Sandy High School. Pregame coverage starts at 6:45 p.m. on 1490 The Score and online at 541radio.com on the Doc Stewart’s Homepage.
