ROSEBURG – The Umpqua Lions baseball team squared off against North Medford in a slugfest on Monday afternoon. The two sides combined for 27 runs and 25 hits as North Medford won 14-13.

The Lions scored six times in the fourth inning to pull ahead 11-4, but it wasn’t enough as North Medford rallied to take a 14-12 lead with five runs in the top of the ninth inning.

Umpqua’s Andrew Harrington scored on a single by Cordell Moyers in the ninth inning to get the Lions back within a run, but the crucial game-tying run was left at third base when the game came to an end.

Moyers, Harrington, and Riley Westbrooks all finished with three hits for the Lions. Moyers collected three RBI to lead Umpqua.

Up next, the Lions visit the Grants Pass Diggers for a league doubleheader on Tuesday. Umpqua can clinch a playoff berth with a sweep of the Diggers and keep the hopes of a co-league title with Pepsi alive. Game one of the series begins at 6 p.m.
