CORVALLIS – The Roseburg Doc Stewart’s baseball team began its final week of the regular season with an 8-1 loss to the Corvallis Gerding Builders Marketmen in a non-league contest Sunday night.

The Doc’s had multiple chances to put runs on the board. The team had a runner on base in eight of the nine innings, but five Corvallis pitchers managed to strand nine Doc’s runners on base. The Doc’s batters finished the game 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Meanwhile, the Marketmen recorded 12 hits off of three Doc’s pitchers and took a 2-0 lead in the first inning off of starter Dalton McHugill. Zack Zalesky drove in the first run on a double to left field and then later scored on a two-out single by Joe Casey. Corvallis added two more runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings.

Corvallis had four batters with multi-hit games, led by Zalesky, who had a double and a single to go 2-for-3 on the night, with three RBI and a run scored.

Shawn Rigsby had two hits for the Doc’s and Cam Lierman drove in the only Roseburg run in the sixth.

The Doc’s will have one more non-league game against Salem on Monday before finishing the regular season with a league doubleheader against Willamette Valley on Tuesday. Monday’s game against the Withnell Dodgers will be played at Willamette University in Salem.
