ROSEBURG – The Pepsi Bottlecaps baseball team allowed just one run to North Coos in a league doubleheader on Thursday and swept their way past the Waterfront to clinch at least a share of the league title.
Pepsi took game one 8-1 thanks to a solid pitching performance from Cody Johnson, who tossed six innings and allowed just one run on three hits. The Bottlecaps took an early lead with five runs in the first inning. Brendan Ibarra, Max Labahn, and Collin Warmouth all had two hits in the game for Pepsi.
Kaden Seely tossed a complete game 4-0 shutout in game two for the sweep. Seely surrendered only four hits and had four strikeouts. Paxton Shin drove in three of the four runs for the Bottlecaps with a two-run double in the first inning that put Pepsi up 3-0 and a sacrifice fly in the third that made it 4-0.
With the wins, Pepsi has secured at least a share of the league title. The Bottlecaps would claim the league title outright if second place Umpqua loses at least once over their final six league games. The Lions and Bottlecaps play on July 22 to finish the league season for both teams. The league title could be on the line.
Up next for Pepsi is a non-league doubleheader against North Medford at Legion Field on Sunday.
