MADISON, WI – Local disc golfer Raymond Hernandez begins his time at the Professional Disc Golf Association Amateur and Junior World Championship Tuesday in Madison, Wisconsin.
Hernandez, just 17-years-old, is ranked 7th in his division of about 40 competitors and is confident that he has a good chance at winning. He flew to Wisconsin on Thursday last week and has spent the past three days practicing at the five courses the golfers will play at over the five day tournament.
Hernandez is competing in the Juniors 1 division, which is set to start with a round at the 27 hole course at Token Creek County Park on the north side of Madison. His group began the tournament at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Last year, Hernandez finished 9th in the Juniors II division. It was his first year competing in the event.
