ROSEBURG – After a week off, the Pepsi Bottlecaps American Legion baseball team finally got back on the field with a non-league contest against the Idaho Merchants at Legion Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The time off might have left the Bottlecaps a little rusty as the team was held hitless for the first four innings of a 9-4 loss against Idaho.

The Merchants got out to a fast start, scoring six runs after two innings. Pepsi managed to cut the deficit to 6-2 with a pair of runs in the fifth inning off a Brendan Ibarra double. But Idaho stretched the lead to 9-2 in the top of the sixth inning. Pepsi tried to rally, but got just two more runs in the home half of the sixth.

Ibarra and Brody Black each had a double in the game to lead Pepsi offensively.

The Bottlecaps will try to get back to form as the team heads to the coast on Thursday for a league doubleheader against North Coos. Pepsi is 4-0 in league play and will try to keep that undefeated record intact when the teams take the field for game one at 4 p.m.
