GRANTS PASS – Facing the Grants Pass Miners is apparently the cure for what ails the Umpqua Lions American Legion baseball team.
The Lions scored an impressive 20-3 win in five innings in game one of a doubleheader against the Miners on Tuesday and finished the twin bill with a 4-0 shutout. The victories snapped a four-game losing streak for Umpqua and now the Lions have four of their six wins this season against the Grants Pass team.
In those four games against the Miners, the Lions have scored in bunches. Umpqua has now scored 48 runs against the Miners this season and allowed only nine runs.
The Umpqua Lions are right back to action on Wednesday with a home doubleheader against the other Grants Pass team, the Diggers. The contests will count towards the Lions league record. Game one is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Legion Field.
The Pepsi Bottlecaps get back on the field Wednesday after a lengthy hiatus. It’s been a week since the last time the Bottlecaps played a game and the squad will take the field this afternoon prior to the Umpqua Lions’ doubleheader.
Pepsi will play a single contest at Legion Field against a team from Idaho. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
