CORVALLIS – Former Doc Stewart’s pitcher and Glide High School graduate Jacob Fricke continued an impressive season for the Corvallis Knights by pitching three perfect innings of relief in a 2-1 win Monday that clinched a post season berth for the West Coast League team.
Fricke entered the game against Yakima Valley in the sixth inning with the score 1-0 in favor of the Pippens. The big lefty faced the minimum nine hitters over his three innings and earned his second win of the year thanks to a Cody Hawken home run in the top of the ninth.
Fricke and the Knights are now guaranteed at least a share of first place in the South Division of the West Coast League through the first half of the season. The Corvallis team has four more games to play before the midway point, but, due to tiebreakers, the Knights will earn the automatic postseason berth as the first half division champs.
Fricke has pitched 18 innings in seven games this season for the Knights and has a 2.00 ERA. He has a very impressive 13:1 strikeout to walk ratio and has surrendered less than one hit per inning pitched.
