ROSEBURG – The Umpqua Lions swept the Grants Pass Miners for their first league wins of the season on Thursday. The Lions scored a combined 24 runs during the doubleheader and closed out the twin bill with a mercy rule win in five innings.

The Lions won game won 11-3. Umpqua rallied from a 2-0 deficit by scoring seven times in the third inning. The Lions added another four runs in the fifth for the big win. Andrew Harrington had three hits and finished a home run shy of the cycle to lead three Umpqua hitters with multiple hits.

Grants Pass took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game two, but Umpqua scored seven times in the bottom of the first on their way to a 13-3 victory. Carter Dahl had three hits to lead the Lions at the plate and Riley Westbrooks had a fifth inning single to drive in the final run to make it a 10-run lead.

Umpqua is now 2-2 in league play and the Lions are back to action on Friday with a home doubleheader against South Medford. Game one starts at 6 p.m.
