CORVALLIS – A fifth inning double by Treven Jacks drove in the go-ahead runs for the Roseburg Doc Stewart’s baseball team in a 9-6 win over the Beaverton Beavers on Friday at the Mickey Riley Star Spangled Tournament.
The Doc’s started the game by scoring in the first and second innings to build a 2-0 lead, but Beaverton rallied back to take a lead in the third. The Beavers got back-t0-back hits to leadoff the inning and drive in their first run. A wild pitch brought in the second run and a sacrifice bunt scored the final run from third.
Beaverton stretched the lead to 4-2 in the fifth, but the Doc’s rallied back in the home half of the inning. Zack Watkins and Chance Beecher led off the inning with back-to-back singles and Will Reddekopp later got hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Cam Lierman drove in Watkins to close the deficit to one run and Jacks’ double plated Beecher, Will, and Lierman to put the Doc’s up 6-4. Jacks later scored on a single by Will Shaw.
The Doc’s added two more in the sixth inning on a Reddekopp single and led 9-4 going to the final frame. Beaverton rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh, but a wild double play ended the game. Will Shaw, playing at shortstop, caught a soft line drive near second base and in a single diving motion applied a tag to the Beavers’ runner trying to tag up at second.
Wryland McKnight earned the win for the Doc’s, pitching five innings and allowing four runs and seven hits. Braxton Beerbohm got a save by pitching the final two innings.
The Doc’s had four players with multiple hits and eight of nine players recorded hits.
Up next, the Doc’s will face the Perth Heat Colts on Saturday at 4 p.m. The winner of the game will play for third place on Sunday. Pregame coverage of the game begins at 3:45 p.m. on 1490 The Score and online at 541radio.com on the Doc Stewart’s Homepage.
