MEDFORD – On a hot day in Southern Oregon, the Roseburg Doc Stewart’s bats went cold against the Medford Mustangs in an Area 4 doubleheader.

The Doc’s managed just nine hits against the Mustangs on Tuesday and lost both games of the twin bill. Medford held the Doc’s scoreless for six innings in a 7-2 win in game one. The Mustangs rallied from an early deficit in game two for a 14-4 win in just five innings.

Medford pitcher Ethan Whitney held the Doc’s without a hit for the first three innings in game one. Meanwhile, the Mustangs built a 5-0 lead on seven hits off of Doc’s starter Will Reddekopp.

The Doc’s finally got on the board in the seventh when they trailed 7-0. Zack Watkins drove in the first run for the Roseburg squad and Cam Lierman added another with a two-out single. The rally was cut short as the Doc’s dropped their third straight.

Game two started much differently as the Doc’s jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the first inning. The Doc’s sent ten hitters to the plate and were aided by four walks from Medford starter Nick Sanderson. A double by Will Reddekopp drove in three runs for the Doc’s and the fourth run scored on an error by the Mustangs’ second basemen.

The momentum was short lived as Medford scored three times in the first inning off of Doc’s starter Chris Stone. The Mustangs took the lead in the second as they added five more runs. The go-ahead run came in on a passed ball that got by catcher Terrell Jacks.

Medford scored in four of the five innings and cut the game short in the fifth inning when Cole Carder hit a three-run home run to stretch the lead to 10 runs for a mercy-rule shortened victory.

The Doc’s have now lost four straight games and have fallen to 0-6 in Area 4 games. The team will try to enter the win column with a league doubleheader against the Willamette Valley Titans on Wednesday. The Doc’s will host the Titans at Legion Field for the double-dip at 6 p.m. Broadcast coverage starts at 5:45 p.m. on 1490 The Score and online at 541radio.com on the Doc Stewart’s Homepage.
