ALBANY – The Roseburg Doc Stewart’s scored twice in the sixth inning to pull even against Mid Valley on Monday, but the rally fell short as the Rockets also scored in the sixth to pull off a 5-4 win in a non-league game.

The Rockets scored four times in the first inning against Doc’s starter Wryland McKnight. The lefty struggled to throw strikes early and walked the first two Mid Valley hitters. Dylan Williams made McKnight pay with a single to drive in the game’s first run. A throwing error plated another run and a double by Adam Rappe made it 3-0. The final run in the first came home on a dropped third strike.

The Doc’s managed to tie the game with two runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Cody Gray launched a two-out, two-run homer over the left field fence in the fourth inning to cut the deficit in half. It was the first homer for Gray this season and just the second for a Doc Stewart’s hitter.

Dustin Eakin drove in the Doc’s final two runs in the sixth inning with a two out single. Cam Lierman and Will Reddekopp both scored on the play, but the inning came to an end when Eakin tried to stretch the single into a double and was tagged out at second base.

Mid Valley struck back in the home half of the sixth inning. John Gederos reached on a one-out double and Jayce Lien followed with a single to put runners on first and third base. Jacob Miller brought home what was the winning run with a squeeze bunt down the first baseline in a pinch hit appearance.

The Doc’s got the tying run on first base in the seventh, but couldn’t close the gap to force extra innings. The loss is the sixth one-run loss for the Doc’s this season.

Up next, the Doc’s will continue the season with a pair of league games on Tuesday against the Medford Mustangs at North Medford High School. The Doc’s are still seeking their first win in Area 4 play, while the Mustangs are 1-1 on the season.

The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. and broadcast coverage starts at 1:45 p.m. on 1490 The Score and streaming with video online at 541radio.com on the Doc Stewart’s Homepage.
