ROSEBURG – The Roseburg Doc Stewart’s baseball team managed to get the hits, but couldn’t manufacture the runs in a 6-0 loss against Corvallis on Sunday in the 3rd place game of the Doc’s Tournament.

The Doc’s had eight hits off of Corvallis starter Darren Crosby, matching the number of hits that the Marketmen recorded against four Doc Stewart’s pitchers. Despite their similarities, the Corvallis team also drew five walks and had one batter hit by a pitch, helping the Marketmen extend innings and move around the bases.

Corvallis started its scoring in the first inning. Blaise Sims drew a leadoff walk for the Marketmen and moved into scoring position on a single by Zack Zalesky. Designated hitter Frey Birdwell plated Sims with a sacrifice fly and Zalesky scored on a single by Joe Casey.

The Marketmen made it 3-0 with a score on a bases loaded groundout in the second inning and held that score until the fifth. Corvallis scored its final three runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull ahead 6-0.

Roseburg struggled to even get men in scoring position early on. The Doc’s had three hits through the first three innings, but never had a man reach second base. The best scoring chances for the Doc’s came in the fourth and sixth innings.

In the fourth, the Doc’s loaded the bases with one out, but the Marketmen kept the Doc’s from scoring by getting a force out at home for the second out and Crosby finished the inning with one of his three strikeouts in the game.

In the fifth inning, the Doc’s got the first two runners on, but the next three batters all hit grounders to the left side and Corvallis made all three outs at third base to keep the Doc’s scoreless.

Crosby earned the win for Corvallis, while Doc’s starter Dalton McHugill took the loss.

Will Reddekopp led the Doc’s offensively going 3-for-3 at the plate.

The Doc’s finished fourth in their own tournament with a 2-2-1 record. Corvallis placed third with a 3-1-1 record.

Up next for the Doc’s is another busy week. The team will visit Medford for a league doubleheader on Tuesday, host Willamette Valley for a league doubleheader on Wednesday, and then travel to Corvallis for the start of the Mickey Riley Star Spangled Tournament on Thursday.
