CORVALLIS – Two baseball All-Star series will take place this weekend with local players participating.
The 2016 Reser’s All-Star Series will feature the top senior baseball players in the 6A and 5A classifications, including Roseburg High School’s Zack Watkins. Watkins, an honorable mention All-State infielder for the Indians, will travel to Corvallis for the three-game series beginning Saturday and concluding Sunday.
The series features a single contest on Saturday starting at 2:30 p.m. and a doubleheader Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. The games will be play at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field on the campus of Oregon State University.
Players from all over the state make up the North and South rosters and Watkins is one of only three players selected from the Southwest Conference. The rosters feature some of the best ball players in the state, including many that have committed to play for Oregon and Oregon State.
Also taking place this weekend is the 37th Class 4A All-Star Series, which will feature three players from South Umpqua High School. Shawn Rigsby, Hunter Buchanan, and Tristan Gross have all been invited to play for the South team. The series is once again being hosted by Legion Field in Roseburg and begins with a nine-inning game on Saturday at 7 p.m. The North vs South series concludes with a doubleheader on Sunday starting at noon.
