OSU_MADRIGALTUCSON, Ariz. Right-handed pitcher Bryce Fehmel and second baseman Nick Madrigal have been named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-Americans, the publication Collegiate Baseball announced Wednesday.

The honors give the Beavers at least one Freshman All-American in consecutive seasons and in 13 of the last 15 years.

For Fehmel, it is his second major honor from Collegiate Baseball this year as he was named an All-American last week. On Wednesday, he was also named the nation’s top freshman reliever.

He capped his first season in Corvallis with a 19 2/3-inning streak that saw him allow just one unearned run over his last three outings. During that stretch, which included a complete-game shutout of UCLA, he allowed 11 hits and four walks with 13 strikeouts. He finished his freshman season with a 10-1 record, 2.31 earned run average and a .222 batting average against.

Madrigal, who was named the Pac-12 Conference’s Freshman of the Year last week, batted .333 with 11 doubles, five triples, one home run and 29 RBI. He was spectacular defensively, committing five errors in more than 200 chances. He also helped turn 24 double plays this season.

The Elk Grove, Calif., native was also named to the Pac-12’s First Team and its All-Defensive squad.

Fehmel and Madrigal join three others from Pac-12 schools on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team. Oregon State is the only Pac-12 school with two selections.
