ROSEBURG – It appears that 9-man football is catching on in Roseburg. A new National Nineman Football League team is being established and organizers are currently recruiting players.

The Roseburg Valley Thunder have joined the Douglas Timberwolves as a part of the NNFL. The Thunder are joining the league for the upcoming 2017 season. The team was created in May and according to CEO Rick Winkley, things are progressing quickly. Winkley is still recruiting players and anyone is welcome to tryout.

The squad is also in the middle of numerous fundraising efforts. Three fundraising car wash events are planned for this month in the Sherm’s Thunderbird parking lot. The first is taking place Wednesday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Another car wash at Sherm’s is scheduled for June 15th from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and the final scheduled fundraiser is set for June 25th, also from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those looking to join the team can contact Winkley at 541-817-6065.
