IMG_5669ROSEBURG – The Roseburg football program wrapped-up its first two workouts under new head coach Dave Heuberger on Thursday. While there were drills and new schemes to work on, coach Heuberger also mixed in some fun and games to set the tone for the summer and fall.

“We threw at lot at them the last two days,” explained Heuberger. “We had some fun and work to kind of set the tone and set the pace.”

Approximately 50-55 varsity and junior varsity level players showed up for the workouts according to Heuberger. He’s hoping to do some hallway recruiting over the final week of school to try and boost the turnout come fall.

Over the summer, Heuberger says that he doesn’t like to push the players too hard, but he does expect that if a player is around, he’ll be working to improve for the fall. “If they have something more important than being in here with their team, then they need to go do it,” said Heuberger. “But they need to have their butts in here lifting if they’re in town.”

Fall football practices will begin August 15 and the season starts on September 1. There’s still plenty to get accomplished before then for coach Heuberger. He did note that his coaching staff is about 90-percent complete. Heuberger said that his offensive coordinator from Springfield last year has chosen to join him at Roseburg and added that he was happy to have a few of the coaches back from last year’s staff.
