ROSEBURG – The No. 7 Roseburg softball team hosts the upset-minded Reynolds Raiders in a second round playoff game on Wednesday. The No. 23 Raiders advanced out of the first round with a 4-2 win over No. 10 Beaverton and now they look to continue their Cinderella run against the Indians.
Roseburg gets to play a second consecutive home game in the post season, while Reynolds make the more than three hour drive south from Troutdale. The Indians will hope to catch the Raiders as the clock runs out on their magical run.
First pitch of the contest is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Live play-by-play coverage of the game will be broadcast on 1490 The Score and online at 541radio.com, where fans can watch the game for free. The pregame show starts at 4:15 p.m.
It’s not just the Indians in action on Wednesday. The 4A, 3A, and 2A/1A classifications begin the baseball and softball state playoffs on Wednesday.
There are a number of games involving Umpqua Basin teams in the first round of the lower classifications. The Far West League champion Douglas softball team begins the playoffs with a home game against Crook County. The Lady Trojans have had more than two weeks to prepare for the playoffs after securing an auto-berth in the first round as a league champ. Douglas will try to knock off the rust against the Cowboys at 4 p.m. in Winston.
Also out of the Far West League, the South Umpqua baseball and softball teams are both heading to Banks for first round contests on Wednesday. Both Lancers’ teams won in the play-in round to advance to the state bracket and, surprisingly, they both drew the Banks Braves in the opening round. The softball game starts first at 3 p.m. and the baseball game will begin shortly after at 5 p.m.
In the 3A state playoffs, the Glide baseball and softball teams both qualified for the state bracket. The baseball team is aiming for a third straight trip to the state title game, but they will have to deal with Vale at 4:30 p.m. The softball team was one of the last teams to make the playoff field and the Lady Wildcats will visit Scio at 5 p.m.
Finally, at the 2A/1A level, the Oakland and North Douglas baseball and softball teams qualified for the post season. The Oakland teams are both on the road to start the playoffs. Oakland baseball visits Knappa, while the Lady Oakers hit the road for Gold Beach. The North Douglas softball team earned a home game and the Lady Warriors host Irrigon. The North Douglas baseball team travels to Prospect Charter.
