MYRTLE CREEK – The South Umpqua baseball team knocked the reigning 4A state champs out of the post season with a 6-4 win over Scappoose in a play-in round game on Thursday.
The Lancers won at home against the Indians and advanced to the first round of the state playoffs for the first time since 2013. South Umpqua will now head on the road for a state playoff game and it appears the Lancers will visit the Banks Braves.
The first round of the 4A baseball playoffs is scheduled to start May 25.
The South Umpqua softball team is hoping to make the state playoffs as well, as the team travels to Mazama for a play-in game on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
South Umpqua is actually ranked higher than Mazama, but because the Lady Lancers finished third in the Far West League, they are forced to play on the road in the play-in round. The game will be broadcast on local radio in Klamath Falls and fans can listen to the game online.
[UPDATE] – South Umpqua’s softball play-in game at Mazama has been postponed until Saturday at noon and has been moved to Grants Pass High School. No word on whether or not the Klamath Fall radio station plans to broadcast the game still.
