BEAVERTON – The 6A state tennis tournament got underway Thursday morning. The Roseburg Indians have three boys doubles teams competing and one student-athlete competing in the 6A girls singles bracket. We will post updates here throughout the tournament when matches have gone complete.
UPDATE 3:35 P.M. – Roseburg sophomore Adrienne Powell was knocked out of the state tournament with a 6-2; 6-1 loss against 5-seed Kelsey Bartlett in the second round. This is the second loss against Bartlett in less than a week for Powell. With Powell getting knocked out of the 6A girls singles bracket, the Roseburg Indians no longer have any girls tennis players in competition at the state tournament.
UPDATE 1:05 P.M. – Roseburg’s Paul Bonnet and Ethan Smith advanced to the second round of the boys doubles tournament with a 6-1; 6-1 win over Kenton and John Bui from David Douglas. Bonnet and Smith will next face South Medford’s 7-seeded doubles team of Kylar Tosh and Ben Vaughn. Tosh and Vaughn had a first round bye to advance in the bracket.
UPDATE 12:30 P.M. – The Roseburg doubles team of Nicholas Norlin-Pritchard and Kyle Yates lost 4-6; 0-6 in the first round against Lincoln’s Maayez Imam and Daniel Luo. Norlin-Pritchard and Yates will try to keep their tournament hopes alive with a win in the consolation bracket.
UPDATE 10:30 A.M. – Roseburg sophomore Adrienne Powell defeated West Albany senior Alex Sorte 6-2; 7-5 to advance to the second round of the 6A girl’s singles bracket. Powell will face 5-seed Kelsey Bartlett from South Medford this afternoon. Bartlett had a bye in the first round. Bartlett was the top-seed in the Southwest Conference district tournament last week and defeated Powell in the championship match.
