BEAVERTON – The Roseburg tennis team has three doubles teams and a single beginning play in the 6A state tennis tournament at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Beaverton on Thursday.
Senior Stefan Ball and junior Lucas Ball are teamed up again this year and seeded third in the 6A boy’s doubles bracket. Last year, the doubles partners were the six-seed in the tournament and made it to the quarterfinals before getting upset to end their run.
This year, the duo have a first round bye, so they will wait to face the winner of the doubles match between Lake Oswego and Oregon City in the second round. A win there and the pair will be back into the quarterfinals.
Also representing Roseburg at the state tournament in the doubles bracket is the team of seniors Nicholas Norlin-Pritchard and Kyle Yates and the team of senior Paul Bonnet and freshman Ethan Smith. The Norlin-Pritchard/Yates team faces a duo from Lincoln and the Bonnet/Smith team takes on a pair from David Douglas.
In the girl’s singles bracket, the Indians are represented by sophomore Adrienne Powell, who will face a senior from West Albany in the first round. Powell is the first female singles participant at the state tournament for Roseburg since Fiona Johnson in 2014.
