ROSEBURG – For a second consecutive season, a Roseburg softball player has earned the title of Southwest Conference Player of the Year. The conference coaches voted on All-League honors on Sunday and Roseburg’s Baylee Wyscaver was selected as the 2016 Player of the Year.

Wyscaver, a senior for the Indians, has started on the varsity softball team since her freshman season and was a first team All-League infielder the past two years. This season she follows in the footsteps of former Roseburg catcher Jacey Conklin, who won the Player of the Year award as a senior in 2015.

Wyscaver will also follow Conklin in her post high school softball career. Wyscaver has already signed on to play softball with the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, where Conklin is on the roster as a catcher.

Along with Wyscaver, the Roseburg softball team landed senior pitcher Ashley Martin and freshman catcher Samie Bergmann on the first team ballot. This is Martin’s first time on the first team after earning second team recognition the past two years.

All told, the Roseburg softball team had eight players earn All-League status, four of which were freshman.

The Southwest Conference baseball All-League voting was done on Sunday as well and Roseburg had four players earn first team recognition after the Indians finished fourth in the final conference standings.

All four players earned first team All-League status for the first time in their careers. Seniors Will Reddekopp and Zack Watkins were both first team infielders and senior Chris Stone was voted first team at the utility position. Freshman Zack Mandera was voted one of three first team All-League pitchers.

Reddekopp and Stone were both second team All-League players last season for Roseburg, Reddekopp as a pitcher and Stone at the utility position.
