BANKS, OR – Champions will be crowned at the state golf tournaments going on around the state Tuesday. After day one, there’s a decent amount of work to be done for our local golfers in action.
The Roseburg girl’s golf team is in 10th place after the first round. The Indians shot 79-over par at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, OR. Sheldon leads the team scores at 34-over par. Leading the way for the Indians is freshman Ally Sandfort, who shot 11-over on her first 18 holes. She cleaned up her game shooting 5-over on the back nine after shooting 6-over par on the front.
Sandfort is tied for 18th in the individual standings. After that, senior Kat DeLaCruz is tied for 34th, Brynn Pitts is tied for 44th, Avry Hansen is 76th, and Ali Cooperrider is tied for 84th. The Roseburg girls begin their second round on the 10th hole, with tee times starting after 1 p.m.
The lone Roseburg boy to make the golf state championships was junior Cole Dittemore. After the first round, Dittemore was tied for 32nd with a score of 6-over par. The junior went 4-over on his second nine holes after starting the day strong at just 2-over through the first nine. Dittemore will begin the final day of play at 12:54 p.m.
In the 4A girl’s tournament, Sutherlin’s Tannor Langdon-Moser is tied for 17th after day one. She’s leading the Sutherlin girl’s team, which sits in last place in the team standings. Following Langdon-Moser is Jocelyn Hanan (35th), Mia Lahley (39th), and Cassidy Leatherwood (48th). The Sutherlin girls begin round two with tee times between 8-9 a.m.
The Sutherlin boys made the tournament as well. Leading the way for the Bulldogs is junior Matt Black, who is tied for 17th. The Sutherlin boys are tied for last in the team standings, but could easily move up with a strong second round. Following Black in the standings is Scout Meyer (28th), Jeremiah Scroggins (39th), Colby Hobgood (52nd), and Jackson Shelton (56th).
