EUGENE – The Roseburg softball team is on the verge of a post season berth, but a 1.5 game lead over South Medford and Thurston isn’t enough to clinch a spot in the first round of the state playoffs just yet.
The Indians face Willamette in Eugene on Wednesday, but Roseburg’s post season fate will rest in the balance of the Indians’ doubleheader against Thurston on Friday.
If Roseburg were to lose its final three games, the team would fall to fifth place and miss out on an automatic bid to the state playoffs. If the Indians were to win against the Wolverines on Wednesday, but lose both games against Thurston on Friday, they would finish in a tie with the Colts and could possibly miss out on an automatic playoff spot thanks to tie-breaker rules and depending on how South Medford finishes the year. A win for Roseburg against Willamette on Wednesday would mean the Indians need to win just one game against Thurston on Friday to secure a post season berth.
There’s still a lot left to be decided. Roseburg and Willamette face off at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
