UMPQUA BASIN – The final week of the baseball and softball regular season is upon us and there is still a lot left to be decided for the post season.

BASEBALL
The Roseburg Indians were swept in three games by the Sheldon Irish last week and now sit tied for fourth in the Southwest Conference with South Medford, which owns the head-to-head tie breaker against the Indians. Roseburg is fighting to stay in one of the top four spots in the Southwest Conference in order to earn an automatic playoff berth.

The Indians could move up to third place with a strong finish, but could also drop to last if all hell breaks loose. The Indians face Willamette three times over the final week of the regular season. The first game is scheduled for Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in Eugene.

South Umpqua baseball has clinched a second place finish in the Far West League and the Lancers will host a play-in round game as a reward. South Umpqua will host Siuslaw/Mapleton in its regular season finale and will then wait until the OSAA assigns a play-in match-up on Saturday, May 14.

Glide baseball is tied for first as the Wildcats begin the final week of league action on Tuesday. The Wildcats are tied with Pleasant Hill and the two teams meet for a doubleheader in Glide on Tuesday. The Wildcats have beaten the Billies once already this season. With five regular season games left to play, neither team has clinched a playoff berth just yet.

At the 2A/1A level, only the top two teams from each conference qualify for the state playoffs. Oakland and North Douglas are battling it out for the second seed from Special District 3. The Oakers have a one-game lead over the Warriors with two games left to play. Glendale is tied for second in Special District 4 and will need to win over its final two game to secure a playoff berth.

SOFTBALL
Roseburg is one win away from clinching a playoff berth in the Southwest Conference. The Indians are in second place with three games left to go in the regular season. Roseburg makes a trip to Eugene on Tuesday to face last place Willamette and a win guarantees the Indians no worse than a fourth place finish. The Indians finish the season with a doubleheader at home Saturday against third place Thurston. The Colts currently trail Roseburg by one game and could overtake the Indians with a sweep in the season finale.

The Douglas softball team lost its first league games on Friday and missed out on a chance to secure the Far West League title and the league’s only automatic playoff berth. The Lady Trojans still need just one win over their final two games.

South Umpqua has clinched no worse than third place in the Far West League, but the Lady Lancers could move into second place with a win and a Marshfield loss in both team’s final game on Tuesday. Either way, South Umpqua appears destined to a play-in round game.

Glide softball is still in contention in the Mt. Valley Conference with five games left to play. The Lady Wildcats could move up for an auto bid to the playoffs or they could earn an at-large bid.

And at the 2A/1A level, North Douglas, Oakland, Yoncalla, and Monroe are all fighting for two playoff spots with two games left to go.
