GRANTS PASS – The Roseburg track and field team was in Grants Pass Saturday for the 67th annual Grants Pass Rotary and it was a record setting day for the Indians’ throwers.

Senior Travis LaDuke beat a field of 20+ and won the javelin event with a personal best throw of 181’7.00. The mark eclipses his previous best by more than 15 feet. LaDuke’s previous record of 166’1.00 was set during his junior season. LaDuke’s throw on Saturday was the 10th best in the state this season.

Sophomore Tyler Sconce also reached a personal best with his winning toss in the shot put. Sconce hurled the shot 52′.500 to tie his personal record and beat the second place finisher by six inches. Sconce also threw 52’5.oo during a meet against Grants Pass at Roseburg High School early in the season. Sconce’s performance also ranks 10th in the state this season.

LaDuke, Sconce, and the rest of the Roseburg track and field team will now prepare to compete at the Southwest Conference district meet on May 14. The district meet is being hosted by South Medford High School.
