GRANTS PASS – The Roseburg softball team moved ahead of South Medford for second place in the Southwest Conference on Saturday. The Indians split a doubleheader against Grants Pass, but South Medford lost two games to conference leader North Medford and fell one game behind Roseburg in the standings.

The Roseburg girls cruised to a 17-9 win in game one of their twin bill against the Lady Cavers. The Indians scored in every inning except the first and trailed Grants Pass 1-0 after one inning of play. Roseburg put up two runs in the second inning to pull ahead and scored once in the third and fourth innings to go up 4-1 heading to the fifth inning.

The Indians sent 11 hitters to the plate in the fifth inning and scored seven times. Roseburg had five hits in the inning, highlighted by a pair of singles by Madysn Blevins, who went 5-for-5 in the game, and a three-run home run by Ashley Martin.

Grants Pass scored four times in the home half of the fifth inning to avoid the mercy rule, but the Lady Cavers couldn’t make up the difference.

Grants Pass got a measure of revenge by winning game two 5-2. The Lady Cavers out-hit Roseburg 6-5 and the Indians committed five errors leading to three unearned runs.

The Indians have six games left to play and trail first place North Medford by three games. Roseburg hosts South Eugene Tuesday, before North Medford comes to Stewart Park for a doubleheader on Saturday.
