UMPQUA BASIN – Two Umpqua Basin sports teams take the field Friday with the top spot in their respective conference standings on the line.

The Douglas softball team currently holds a one-game lead over North Bend for first place in the Far West League and the two teams will meet for a doubleheader in Winston on Tuesday. The Lady Trojans can grab a significant hold on first place with a sweep of the Brown Bulldogs, but losing both games would mean North Bend would sit alone in first.

Game one between Douglas and North Bend starts at 3 p.m. at Douglas High School.

The Glide baseball team is on an eight-game winning streak, but the Wildcats haven’t been able to put any distance between themselves and Pleasant Hill. The Billies are tied with Glide for first in the Mt. Valley Conference and also have a lengthy winning streak of their own. Pleasant Hill has won it’s past six games.

Glide and Pleasant Hill square off in a doubleheader starting with game one at 2 p.m. in Glide.
